Project for the Study of Collecting and Provenance

Contemporary Programs and Research
The Research Institute's department of contemporary programs and research facilitates integrated, multidisciplinary programming related to the contemporary arts. Public events include panel discussions in the popular Modern Art in Los Angeles series, film and video screenings, and collaborative symposia with other arts institutions.

On the Record: Art in L.A., 1945–1980
The Research Institute's department of contemporary programs and research is collaborating with the Getty Foundation on a project to document the history of advanced art in Los Angeles in the second half of the twentieth century. Alongside new and important acquisitions for the Research Library's special collections, the Research Institute is conducting an extensive cycle of oral histories and public panels to create a permanent record of the knowledge and experiences of the principal figures who created that history. The Getty Foundation is providing grants to local museums, libraries, and archives to arrange and describe their key historical records, making them available for the first time to scholars for research.

First Draft, the Newsletter of the Getty Research Institute
The Research Institute's award-winning annual newsletter reviews the events and activities of the preceding year and includes features designed to inform a professional audience of the projects, holdings, and other resources of the Research Institute. To request issues 2 through 5 of First Draft, which were published in print only, please email griweb@getty.edu. You may request a copy of the fall 2007 issue as well, or view it online.
