Descriptive Note Text: The paneling for this room was made around 1755 for an as-yet-unidentified Parisian hôtel (mansion). The reconstructed room comprises paneling, a mantelpiece, and inset paintings. The paneling in this room is a good example of the decoration of grand salons in the fashionable French private houses of the mid?eighteenth century. This would have been one in a series of rooms in an enfilade, which is a string of rooms linked by doors that are located on a straight line. These rooms were designed so a visitor would travel from one room to the next in succession. Free text
