No. 26. Medium-size figures on canvas, 2½ palms high, 2¼ wide
Three scaly Tritons in the sea,
One next to the other, fashioned by the Apelles of Arpino
With brushstrokes worthy of praise.
In their right hands they hold poisonous, evil
Vipers, which we can see want to
Bite the skin of those sea monsters.
No. 27. Life-size head on panel, 1½ palms high, 1¼ wide
Our Savior, God made man
At the time of his life when a river of blood
Gushed from his five wounds.
It is the work of Palma , whose brush astonishes, but
Rarely reveals the effort of his work
As always appears in his creations.
No. 28. On canvas, 1½ palms wide, 1¼ high
Guercino colored and composed a small
Red fruit in a vermilion cup, in which nature
Concealed a small, round pit instead of a soul.
In looking at this noble painting
So lifelike, the eye is deceived
Into believing that it is not artificial.
No. 29. Half-length portrait on canvas, 3 palms high, 2½ wide
Done with art and a masterly touch
A portrait on linen by Velázquez shows
A sitter dressed as a cardinal.
The illustrious Iberian was born to immortalize
High-ranking and royal personages in paint,
And here he gave incomparable evidence of his worth.
