New Open Content Images from the GRI

Over 77,000 images from the GRI's Foto Arte Minore Archive and the Tapestries Study Images Collection are now available, free of charge, through the Getty's Open Content Program. The Foto Arte Minore Archive features photographs of Italian art and architecture taken between 1960 and 1988 by German scholar Max Hutzel, while the Tapestries Collection includes images of medieval and modern European and American tapestries.

2014/15 Scholars Announced

More than 30 scholars from around the world have been selected to participate in the 2014/2015 scholar year, including artist Tacita Dean and curator Lynne Cooke. Scholars will explore the theme Object—Value—Canon with projects such as The Loss of Anthropology: African Art and Its Western Canon and Visibility—The Role of Reproductions in Canonization Processes.

No Further West:
The Story of Los Angeles Union Station

Los Angeles Union Station, an architectural icon and symbol of the city's early 20th-century aspirations, turns 75 this year. This exhibition features beautifully rendered architectural drawings, photographs, and other archival material illuminating the landmark's contentious 30-year planning and construction process.

Symposium on Jackson Pollock's Mural

Yvonne Rainer: Dances and Films

Dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer is one of the most influential artistic figures of the last 50 years. This exhibition surveys Rainer's major works and includes a lively array of photographs, scores, journals, ephemera, and audiovisual presentations drawn from the GRI's Yvonne Rainer Papers.

New Archive on Islamic Art History

Oleg Grabar Papers, 1898–2009 | Finding Aid

Professor and scholar Oleg Grabar transformed the study of Islamic art history in the United States. This archive includes thousands of Grabar's images, along with notes, archeological reports, unpublished lectures, and other works. It also contains a small amount of material documenting Byzantine art and architecture originally collected by Grabar's father, the noted scholar André Grabar.
