Poirier/Mnemosyne: Les archives de l'archeologue

The Poiriers have recreated the archive of a fictional archaeologist-architect devoted to the excavation of a site called "Mnémosyne" (the Greek word for memory). In the work Mnémosyne, the archive is presented in a cabinet, reminiscent of the cabinets of curiosities once used to display objects of art and nature. On top of the cabinet and inside its drawers are a cast taken from a broken sculpture, a human skull containing an ancient ruined theater, a field notebook, pottery shards, and other artifacts that allude metaphorically to the archaeological project of piecing together the past.
