Loss, Recuperation, and Identity

Libeskind/Extension of the Berlin Museum with the Jewish Museum Department

This architectural model was made by the architect Daniel Libeskind for the addition of the Jewish Museum Department to the Berlin Museum. At its core is a void, an empty space alluding to the attempted destruction of the Jewish people and their history in the Holocaust. The ruins of history find expression in a void rather than in a material form, which cannot adequately represent what has been destroyed.
