Inform Your Host Department

The first thing you must do when arranging either personal or Getty-related travel is to seek approval from your supervisor and host department regarding your specific travel plans.

Valid Passport

If traveling internationally, make sure that you bring your valid passport with you.

Travel Validation (J Visa Holders Only)

J visa holders must bring their original DS-2019 to an OSIP staff member for a validation signature before departing for their first trip outside of the United States during their Getty residency. Once the DS-2019 is signed, you must keep it with you while you travel, as this document is needed for re-entry to the United States.

Travel Letter (J & F Visa Holders Only)

An OSIP staff member will prepare a travel letter for J or F visa holders, should they travel outside of the United States for any personal or Getty-related reasons. Please make OSIP aware of your travel plans in advance so there is enough time to prepare the letter, which will highlight travel destination cities and arrival and departure dates. Should they be requested by customs officials, travel letters must be surrendered upon re-entry into the United States.

International SOS (Graduate Interns only)

International SOS provides Getty representatives with medical and travel security assistance. Getty Graduate Interns will be provided with an International SOS Getty membership card and a list of phone numbers of International SOS Centers in some of the more popular countries. Please consult SOS International to learn more about the service for other study trip destinations. This service is for Getty-related trips only.
