Professional Organization Grants

These grants provide support to major professional organizations serving fields related to the understanding and preservation of the visual arts. Grants to these organizations support travel to their national and international conferences for participants from developing countries, as well as special projects crucial to the fields they serve. Inquiries regarding travel support should generally be made one year prior to the date of the conference.

National and international professional membership organizations that serve the fields of art history, conservation, and museums may apply for funding.

Preliminary Procedures
The first step in applying for a Professional Organizations Grant is to submit a preliminary letter of inquiry to determine eligibility. The letter (maximum two pages) should include the following:

  1. a brief description of the organization;
  2. a brief description of the project for which funding is requested;
  3. an estimate of the amount of financial support to be requested from the Getty Foundation; and
  4. a brief explanation of the nonprofit, charitable, or tax-exempt status of the organization.

If the project is eligible for consideration, the organization will be asked to submit a formal application and will be sent the necessary application forms.
