Two More OSCI Releases

The Art Institute of Chicago and the Walker Art Center are the latest partners in the Foundation's Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative to release their Getty-funded digital publications. The Art Institute's Monet catalogue delivers a comprehensive volume on the museum's significant holdings by the beloved Impressionist artist, with the look and feel of an eBook. The Walker's volume, On Performativity, is an exploration of its performance-based collection holdings that brings together new scholarship, dynamic illustrations, and archival material in a crisp, responsive-design environment.

Summer Workshops for Digital Art History

This summer the Foundation is supporting three training workshops for art historians to explore the opportunities and challenges of digital technology for their research. The first two workshops took place at Harvard's metaLAB in June and at George Mason University's Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media in mid-July. Participants shared thoughts and resources throughout the programs on social media: look up #beautifuldata and #doingdah14 to follow along and join the conversation. The final workshop is now in progress at UCLA's Digital Humanities program and closes with a public colloquium on August 6.

MOSAIKON Training for Libyan Restorers

Foundation support for training related to the conservation of ancient mosaics in the Mediterranean continues through the MOSAIKON initiative. The Centro di Conservazione Archaeologica (CCA) has successfully completed a course that brought Libyan restorers to CCA headquarters outside of Rome for two intensive training residencies with leading mosaics conservators. The group has already demonstrated their newly acquired skills through treatment of a second-century Roman mosaic on loan from the Museo delle Terme. The course is part of a larger program being undertaken by CCA with Getty support that will continue over the next several years with training for professionals from Syria, Jordan, and Tunisia.
