Featuring 20 selections from the Museum's collection, from pre-photographic drawings to contemporary digital works, the exhibition touches on a range of technical and artistic explorations by figures such as John Beasly Greene, Imogen Cunningham, Harry Callahan, and William Garnett.

See manuscripts filled with delightful and disturbing visions of death and the afterlife. This selection from the Museum's collection includes depictions of God's mercy, saved souls in paradise, and the rewards of the blessed, as well as morbid and sometimes horrific illustrations of funerals, demons, and the punishment of the wicked, which prompted the pious to repent for their sins.

One of the treasures of the National Museum in Warsaw, Poland, the dramatic "Ecce Homo" altarpiece by Dutch Renaissance master Maerten van Heemskerck has spent nearly two years undergoing conservation and study at the Getty. This exhibition presents the newly conserved painting and reveals new findings about Heemskerck's materials and expressive technique.
