Artist John Nava transformed residents of Los Angeles into saints for the tapestries he designed for the city's Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Nava will discuss Rembrandt's work and consider what it means to merge the "common" with the holy.

Complements the exhibition Rembrandt's Late Religious Portraits.

Gary Baseman and John Harris Sign Strong Stuff
August 28, 2:30 p.m.

More Family Activities:

Artist Gary Baseman and author John Harris come to the Getty Center to sign their new kids' book Strong Stuff: Herakles and His Labors (Getty Publications, $16.95, hardcover).

Perfect for kids eight and up, the eye-popping book is a playful account of the great Greek hero Herakles in action. Harris will read from the book and Baseman will demonstrate his electrified drawing technique.

Enjoy outdoor music and art-making at the Getty Center on August 6

Spanish flamenco, Sephardic chants, gamelan percussion of Indonesia and Malaysia, and traditional Chinese music are all on tap for our August Family Festival, which evokes the cosmopolitan atmosphere of 17th-century Amsterdam.

Hear tales of tulips and travel and create a Rembrandt-inspired portrait in our hands-on art workshops.

It's all free, and you don't need reservations. Complements the exhibition Rembrandt's Late Religious Portraits.

Garden Concerts for Kids (performance)
August 13–14, 20–21, and 27–28, 4:00–6:00 p.m.

The lawn of the Central Garden transforms into an outdoor stage for our fourth annual Garden Concerts for Kids.

Sing and dance along as the Cultural Heritage Choir, Justin Roberts, and José-Luis Orozco hit the stage with kid-friendly songs from a variety of musical traditions.

Free; no reservations required.

Admission to the Getty Center is FREE. Parking is $15, but FREE after 5:00 p.m. for Saturday evening hours and for evening events.

Admission to the Getty Villa is always FREE. A ticket is required. Each Villa ticket allows you to bring up to three children ages 15 and under with you in one car. Please note that this does not apply to tickets for events, such as lectures and performances. Check current ticket availability online or call (310) 440-7300. Ticket availability is updated weekly for a two-month period. Same-day tickets may also become available online without advance notice. Groups of 15 or more must make reservations by phone. Parking is $15, but FREE for evening events after 5:00 p.m.
