Find Lessons

Art meets language arts in six new lessons written by elementary teachers from the Los Angeles area who participated in the Getty Museum's Art & Language Arts professional development program. Who Are the Workers?

Find Lessons

Explore our new exhibition Spirit of an Age: Drawings from the Germanic World, 1770–1900 online and in person. This exhibition features about 40 beautiful German and Austrian drawings and watercolors, including Menzels' Figure Studies depicting factory workers.

Adapt the lesson "What Is Work and Who Are the Workers?" to examine images of workers in this exhibition. Students can analyze depictions of workers, conduct an interview with a family member about her or his work, and create original drawings about work.

Lesson Plan: What Is Work and Who Are the Workers?

Exhibition: Spirit of an Age: Drawings from the Germanic World, 1770–1900 is on view at the Getty Center through June 19, 2011.
