Urban Skies

Find Lessons

Generations of photographers have found inspiration in the sky. The latest installment in our In Focus series of photography exhibitions explores this wide-open subject and includes several images of skies taken from the within cities and urban centers.

Adapt the lesson "Environmental Impact" to have students analyze a 20th-century photograph of an urban sky, utilizing the principles of design and discussing the message of the work. Students can consider the environmental impact of urban expansion and how this may affect views of the sky and skyline.

Lesson Plan: "Environmental Impact"

Exhibition: In Focus: The Sky is on view at the Getty Center through December 4, 2011.
