Life-Size Statues, Paper Sculptures

Current Exhibitions

Bring ancient Roman sculpture to life with an art activity that can be tied to an exhibition on view at the Getty Villa. The exhibition, The Herculaneum Women and the Origins of Archaeology at the Getty Villa, features two life-size Roman statues of women that were discovered around 1710 at the site of the ancient city of Herculaneum.

Use the lesson "Giants of the Past" to inspire students to make their own figurative sculptures based on these ancient models and other examples in the Getty Museum. The lesson is easily adaptable to include discussions of the "Herculaneum Women" in the exhibition at the Villa.
