Still Life with Flowers and Fruit / Monet

The Secondary Teachers' Institute helps secondary-level teachers make connections between specific areas of the J. Paul Getty Museum's collection and literary and other humanities-based themes.

In this free three-and-a-half-day program, teachers discuss, compare, and connect art and literature, and find ways of bridging what is learned in the Institute with their classroom teaching. Teachers develop their own interdisciplinary teaching materials by researching works of art in the collection, collaborating with their peers on lessons, and sharing their lesson ideas with other participants in the Institute and through the Getty's website.

While Institute themes vary from year to year, each program consists of lectures, discussions of relevant literature, and smaller-group seminar discussions with local scholars.
