Gandydancer's Dream / di Suvero

Explore sculpture with your students by examining the distinct ways artists have explored three-dimensional form throughout art history.

The materials in this curriculum are designed for elementary and secondary teachers to prompt classroom discussion and learning centered on sculpture. Five images have been chosen for their relevancy to elementary and secondary curricular goals. They represent examples of sculpture from the 17th to the 20th centuries in the Getty Museum's collection. Use materials about individual artworks to assist your teaching across a range of lessons that connect to California content standards.

"Questions for Teaching" and "Background Information" about each object are provided in each lesson and in the Image Bank. Scan the "Background Information" before using the "Questions for Teaching" to direct student observations of artworks. Lesson plans connect to California State visual arts and history/social science content areas for both elementary and secondary students.
