Take your students to a local art museum! These lessons prepare your elementary school students for a visit to an art museum, including a lesson in the museum galleries. Students practice basic looking skills and using vocabulary about art. The goal is to develop skills needed to think critically about any work of art. Lessons also address the role of the museum in displaying and interpreting works of art.

Insert these lessons into any art curriculum. Learning objectives in each lesson build on skills learned in previous lessons. Therefore, lessons should be taught in sequence. California state and national education standards are indicated for each lesson.
