Two Worlds in One Medium

By Danny Gonzalez

My cyanotype consists of random drawings that I made. At the time I wanted to make a surrealist type of work with my cyanotype by experimenting with the type of drawing I made and the position of my objects. I was really inspired by the great surrealist artist Salvador Dali and magical realist Frida Kahlo. I wanted to make a dreamlike landscape with my work. I also drew the signature of Renaissance artist, Albrecht Durer, in order to contrast with the influence of the more modern surrealism. Albrecht Durer's initials also have a much more significant meaning to my work. Albrecht Durer was known for his almost realistic type of drawings, a style that is slowly disappearing in our modern era. Yet my work captures the modern world, that I live in, and the more antique world, that I'm inspired by, evident by the contrast of my drawings and the shadows impeded by the objects in my contemporary life.
