Noir

By Alex Garcia

The piece created is a reflection of what my childhood consisted of. The environment in this image is a memory of the film noirs I would see as a child. I became captivated by the culture of film noir and its use of black and white along with its anticipated political statements.

The work has a dark background to create the mystery of film noir. The white buildings are created to contrast the darkness. One is colored in to draw attention to the audience and the rest are left in white to create the mystery of danger in the city relating to current situations in this city. The outlines of buildings are created to show depth. The Batman signal is a symbol of a simple solution needed by communities in Los Angeles in the face of a complex problem. Tissue paper was used to create the buildings, and the patterns and color were done with pastel.
