Condition assessment of decorated architectural surfaces
Comprehensive documentation of the decorated surfaces in the tablinum was carried out in graphic, photographic, and written form to better understand original and reconstruction materials and techniques, assess the condition of the wall paintings, and identify types and extent of deterioration. This documentation serves as a diagnostic tool for the development of the conservation plan.
As part of the graphic documentation, the team has developed an Illustrated Glossary to describe terms related to original technique, previous interventions, and conditions.
Additionally, detailed digital photography was done prior to treatment, and monitoring locations were established and are being tracked over the course of the project to monitor the efficacy of the treatment and change over time.
