Dignity (monumental sculpture; Dale Lamphere (American sculptor, born 1947); 2016; Chamberlain (Brule, South Dakota, United States, North and C...)
Note: Built to honor Lakota and Dakota women, demonstrated in the Plains Native American clothing worn by the sculpted figure and by the billowing star quilt in the background of the work. Depicts a giveaway ceremony, with the figure accepting the star quilt (or owinja in Lakota.) The diamonds comprising the Morning Star pattern are connected by spindle bearings, allowing them to move during high winds.
