Palette of Glass, A: The American Windows of Marc Chagall (film (visual work); director, producer, writer: Chuck Olin; features Marc Chagal...; 1978)

Note: English and French with English subtitles. Synopsis: Follows Russian-born artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) as he creates a new set of stained-glass windows for the Art Institute of Chicago. Shows the factory where the glass is manufactured, how appropriate glass is chosen and blown into colored sheets, and how Chagall applies the grisaille (the painted decorations that give unity and dimension to the glass fragments), as well as Chagall's studio in the south of France and the atelier of Charles Marq, where the windows are fabricated. Chagall and Marq discuss the nature of collaboration between artist and artisan. Also available in the compilation film DEGAS, ERTE AND CHAGALL (60 min.).
