Bayeux Tapestry (embroidery work; unknown embroiders; patron; probably Bishop Odo of Bayeux; 1070s; Bayeux Museum )
Note: Medieval embroidery work, not a tapestry. Depicts the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. First documented in 1476 as used once a year to decorate the nave of the cathedral in Bayeux, France. Its origins are not documented, but the prevalent current opinion is that it was probably commissioned by Bishop Odo, half-brother of William the Conquerer, and made in England in the 1070s. It is comprised of several panels stitched together; it is surmised that it may be incomplete, missing final scenes of the conquering hero William in his realm. La Tapisserie de Bayeux est inscrite au Registre Mémoire du Monde de l'UNESCO.
