Note: John Cage's conceptual musical composition was first performed by David Tudor at the the Maverick Concert Hall near Woodstock, New York on Friday, August 29, 1952. The piece, which calls for 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence, in three movements, was on this occasion performed by Tudor with a piano. He raised and lowered the keyboard cover two times and depressed one of the pedals of the instrument during the duration of the piece.
