Hercules and Telephus (sculpture (visual works); unknown Roman; ancient Roman; Museo Chiaramonti ; Inv. 1314)
Note: Roman copy after a Greek original dated 4th century BCE. Found in the Campo de’ Fiori in Rome. Restored under Pope Julius II (1503-1513). Over-lifesize staue of Hercules holding a child on his left arm; the child has been identified as Hercules' son Telphus, although some have identified him as Ajax. Hercules was historically identified as a portrait of the emperor Commodus.
