Note: Bridge in Rome, originally built by Hadrian across the Tiber to access his mausoleum. Now decorated with sculptures of angels carrying instruments of the Passion, by Bernini and others. After the ruin of Nero's bridge, used by pilgrims to St. Peter's. Under Pope Gregory I, both the fortress and the bridge were named 'Sant'Angelo' after the legend of an angel having appeared on the roof of the castle to announce the end of the plague.
