Record Type: Movable Work
Red-Figure Neck Amphora (amphora (storage vessel); Attributed to Kleophrades Painter, Greek (Attic), active 505...; about 490 B.C.; J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, Calif...; 76.AE.54)
Note: Red-figure amphora, originally with twisted handles, reconstructed from fragments. Part of one of the twisted handles remains but is not included in the reconstruction (76.AE.54.16). The surviving fragments reconstruct part of one side which depicts a youth in a short chiton facing right. The youth stands on an ornamental border composed of a meander pattern with alternating filled rectangles. There is a two-letter inscription on the underside of the foot, which was added after the vase was fired. It is likely that both sides of the vase were originally decorated with a large single figure.
