Note: Comprises a panel of Madonna and Child surmounted by a pinnacle depicting Christ the Redeemer and angels, the central section of a now dispersed larger altarpiece. It is believed that this work was originally located in San Francesco, Orvieto. A panel depicting St. Catherine of Alexandria, now in Canada, was probably a side panel in the original altarpiece.

Additional Notes:
Italian ..... Lo stato di conservazione è in generale soddisfacente. La tavola è stata ridotta sul margine inferiore e forse anche lungo i lati. Costituiva il centro di un polittico la cui struttura originale è ancora oggetto di discussione tra i critici. Uno degli scomparti laterali è stato concordemente riconosciuto nella Santa Caterina d'Alessandria oggi a Ottawa. Degna di nota la presenza del serafino, del cherubino e dei due troni, che compongono la triade maggiore delle nove schiere angeliche. Non è stata sufficientemente sottolineata in passato l'alta qualità di questo dipinto destinato alla chiesa di San Francesco ed eseguito da Simone Martini e dai suoi collaboratori nella prima metà degli anni '20 del Trecento, periodo durante il quale il pittore licenziò ben tre polittici per altrettante chiese orvietane.
