The Swing (painting (visual work); Fragonard, Jean-Honoré (French painter and draftsman, 1732-1...; 1767; Wallace Collection (London, Greater London, England, United ...;)
Note: The Swing also known as The Happy Accidents of the Swing is considered to be one of the iconic paintings of the Rococo era, and the best known painting by Fragonard. The painting depicts a lush and elegant garden where a stylish young woman wearing the height of Rococo fashion seductively sits upon a swing, while a smiling young man watches from a vantage point that allows him to see up into her billowing dress. An older man, barely visible in the shadows on the right, moves the swing with a pair of ropes. As the young lady swings forward, she kicks one of her dainty slippers into the air. The scene allow includes 2 statues, one of a putti who puts a finger to his lips as if to convert to the other staute of putto to keep this seductive scene a secret.
