Note: The griffin, with lean body, small head, and long crested neck, sits on his haunches. His wings are of volute-tipped Archaistic form. He mauls a youthful male victim, probably an Arimasp, wrenching an arm upwards with his beak while pushing down on the head with his right front claw to rend his prey limb from limb. The nude body slumps, already lifeless, between the griffin's front legs. There are traces of an attachment at the top of the figure Possibly created in Italy. | |
