Note: The statuette depicts an old woman wearing a chiton with long, tight sleeves and separate arm coverings. On her head is a cloth. Over her chiton is a knotted mantle. The woman holds her right arm down by her side and slightly away from her body. Her left arm is bent at the elbow, with her hand held at her waist. She looks down towards her left hand. The objects she once held in her hands are missing, but they may have been a distaff of unworked wool in her left hand, and a spindle in the right, as she twisted the wool into a thread in front of her body. The figural type was developed in the late second century B.C., and continued into the first century A.D. Creation Location: Eastern Mediterranean. Creation Location: Italy (?)
