Votive Statuette of Hercle (statuette (figurine); Unknown Etruscan (Etruscan Artist); 320 - 280 BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 96.AB.36)
Note: The statuette represents a version of the figure of Herakles, called Hercle in the Etruscan tradition. The hero is depicted frontally, as a standing, nude youth. His left palm is opened, to hold some spherical object now missing (the apples of the Hesperides?) and his right hand rests on his hip. He wears the skin of the Nemean lion covering his head, and the lower jaw forms a collar; the animal's front paws are knotted on the chest of the hero, and the rest of the skin is wrapped over his back and on his left arm. The hero stands with his weight on his right leg and steps slightly back with the heel raised from the ground.
