Fresco Fragment: Woman on a Balcony (fresco (painting); Unknown Roman (Roman Artist); about 9 BCE - CE 14; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 96.AG.172)

Note: Depicted on the fragment is a woman standing at a balcony. She sips from a shallow drinking cup, perhaps a phiale, held in her right hand, and steadies an oinochoe on the ledge of the balcony railing. She wears a loose-fitting and sleeved tunic, cinched at the waist, along with a sakkos which matches the tunic's light green color. The shadows of the scene indicate that this fragment is from the right-hand wall of a room relative to its entrance. Broad bands of black and red frame the scene at the left, and additional bands of color can be seen below the balcony (red and blue?).
