Grave Relief of a Silversmith (relief (sculpture ); Unknown Roman (Roman Artist); first quarter of 1st century; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 96.AA.40)
Note: The inscription informs us that the relief is a portrait of Publius Curtilius, a silversmith, who is shown as he appeared in life, wielding the tools of his craft as he fashions a small cup. His bust is placed frontally within a deep rectangular niche. He wears a ring on the fourth finger of his left hand and wears a tunic with a schematically rendered toga that is pulled open to reveal his hands and tools.
