Statuette of a Satyr (statuette (statue); Unknown Greek (Greek Artist); 480 - 460 BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 88.AB.72)
Note: This solid-cast bronze statuette takes the form of a kneeling ithyphallic satyr drinking from a keras. The satyr's pose is complex: His weight rests on his right knee and he balances himself with his bent left leg, which terminates in an equine hoof. His head is thrown back as he raises the large drinking horn to his lips with his upraised right hand. His left hand rests in the small of his back. The keras was made separately and attached with a pin, disguised on one end by his thumb and on the other as a protruding tongue. The torso is very muscular and appears human, but the bearded face and pointed ears are characteristically satyr-like. The statuette is missing the right hoof and tail, for which a point of attachment can still be seen.
