Statue of Hercules (Lansdowne Herakles) (statue; Unknown Roman (Roman Artist); about 125; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 70.AA.109)
Note: Hadrianic version of a Greek bronze original dated to the 2nd quarter of the 4th century BCE attributed to the Polykleitan School. The statue portrays the Greek hero Heracles holding a large club in his left hand and a lionskin in his right. The hair is comprised of small comma shaped locks embelished by a tainia. The posture of the statue shows a strong contraposto stance with the left foot forward and the right foot at rest, adhering to the Polykleitan Cannon of Proportions.
