Statue of a Muse (statue; Unknown Roman (Roman Artist); about 200; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 68.AA.21)
Note: This Muse is probably Euterpe, the Muse of music. The statue represents a Muse missing both arms (originally the right hand would have held a musical instrument). Her head is turned slightly to the left. Her wavy hair is gathered in a knot at the nape of her neck. She wears a himation that cascades diagonally in the front; underneath is a chiton. Traces of polychromy remain especially on her hair, eyes, lips and nostrils. Colors include red, yellow, black, white, and blue.
