Note: The drawing shows the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception aloft in the heavens upon a crescent moon, her hands folded and her hair and cloak billowing out to her right. Underneath the moon is a cluster of putti drawn in black chalk that Murillo did not reinforce with pen lines. The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception was among Murillo's most favored subjects in paintings and drawings, which vary from one another in subtle details.
