Tomb of Bnei Hezir, the (rock-cut tomb; unknown Jewish architect; 1st century BCE; Al-Quds (Aḍ Ḍaffah al Gharbīyah, Asia, World, Top o...; )
Note: The burial cave of Bnei Hezir is cut from the rock of a the cliff. The façade features two columns of Doric style supporting a lintel that bears a Hebrew inscription. The cave is typical of Jewish tombs of the late Second Temple period, has four burial chambers, and was probably cut earlier than the inscription. The style and plan date it to the 1st century BCE. Christian tradition associates the site with St. James, who was hurled from the Temple Mount wall to the Kidron Valley below and stoned to death for his faith.
