Château de Chambord (ch$03ateaux; Designed by Domenico da Cortona (Italian architect and woodw...; constructed 1519-1547; Chambord (Centre, France, Europe, World, Top of the TGN hier...)
Note: The building's architecture is a balanced combination of traditional elements of Medieval French architecture and other elements borrowed from the Italian Renaissance. Château de Chambord was built in the style of a fortified medieval castle, with a massive keep flanked by four cylindrical towers and corbelled walkway. Likewise, the walls, moats, and rooftop construction imbue the French gothic style. However, the keep is built on a Greek cross plan of Renaissance origin. This is also reflected in the building’s symmetry, the central placement of the keep, the double-helix staircase in the interior, and the geometric lightness of the facades. The double staircase was likely inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches.
