Metcalfe House (historic house; unknown architect, built for Thomas Metcalfe (British civil ...; ca. 1835-1844; Delhi (Delhi, Bhārat, Asia, World, Top of the TGN hierarc...;)
Note: Located on the banks of the Jumna river, adjacent to Delhi, this colonial bungalow featured a columned veranda and curved portico surrounded by water features and gardens. The house contained Metcalfe's extensive library of over 20,000 books, including an entire room devoted to memorabilia of Napoleon Bonaparte. During the Uprising of 1857, the building was destroyed and the library looted. The building was later used for an academy to train civil service probationers and today forms part of government offices.
