Note: A series of fortifications built over the course of two millennia to protect against invasions. Constructed variously of stone, brick, tamped earth, and wood on an east-west axis across across northern China and southern Mongolia. The most continuous stretch of preserved wall dates from the Ming dynasty and extends for 5,500 miles from Mount Hu near Dandong to Jiayu Pass west of Jiuquan.
