Church of the Holy Sepulchre (church (building); unknown (architects); largely from 1810 (present str...; Jerusalem (Yerushalayim, Yisra'el, Asia, World, Top of the T...)
Note: Church located in the northwest corner of the Old City of Jerusalem, on what has been traditionally considered by many, from the 4th century onward, to be the site of Jesus' death and burial. Parts of the church are in control of various Christian groups, including Greek, Roman, Armenian, and Coptic churches. A church was first dedicated on the site in 336 CE, commissioned by Constantine the Great. It was destroyed by the Persians in 614, rebuilt, destroyed again in 1009 by Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the Fatimid caliph, and rebuilt by Constantine IX Monomachos, the Byzantine emperor. The present day church is largely from 1810.
