Odysseus and the Daughters of Lycomedes (drawing (visual work); Baldassare Peruzzi (Italian, 1481 - 1536) ; about 1520; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center (Los Angeles, Los A...; 85.GG.39)
Note: Peruzzi produced this drawing in preparation for one of four oval frescoes in a Roman villa. The drawing's high degree of finish, with no pentimenti, indicates that it may have been used as a modello. It shows the story where Achilles' mother sent him to live with the daughters of King Lycomedes disguised as a woman to avoid dying in the Trojan War. When gathering heroes for the war, Odysseus went to the palace to reveal Achilles in disguise.
