Note: Sheets 24 x 31 cm; The nine etchings from a suite of 19 prints depict the mock naval battle performed in Florence on the Arno river on Nov. 3, 1608, in celebration of the wedding of Cosimo II, Duke of Tuscany, to Maria Maddalena of Austria; The festival enacted the battle between the Argonauts and the armada of Colchis, while relating the love story of Jason, leader of the Argonauts, and Medea, daughter of the King of Colchis. The ships and floats were designed by Giulio Parigi, with the exception of two that were designed by Jacopo Ligozzi and one by Ludovico Cardi da Cigoli.
