Note: As a deputy to the Convention, Le Peletier voted for the death of Louis XVI during the king's trial. On the eve of the king's execution, he was assassinated by a former bodyguard and became the Revolution's first martyr for the cause of liberty; Inscription below the portrait: Victime de l'honneur perir pour la Patrie, / c'est trouver dans la mort, et la gloire et la vie; The profile portrait bust of the French politician Louis-Michel Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau is set within an oval medallion that is enclosed within a rectangular frame decorated with horizontal lines; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
