Note: Announced in the Journal de la cour et de la ville on November 16, 1791; Named after a verse of La Fontaine's fable of The monkey and the cat (IX, 17, 3), the satirical print comments on the relations between Bailly, La Fayette, and the Duc d'Orléans; The Duc d'Orléans, with the tail of a monkey, drops chestnuts into a woodfire. La Fayette, shown as a centaur, eats the chestnuts that Bailly, outgoing mayor of Paris, transformed into a cat, throws at him; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. P980009*). Publication: [1791].
