Note: On June 13-14 and 16, clergy deputies joined the Third Estate. On June 27, King Louis XVI invited the clergy and the nobility to join the Third Estate and form the National Assembly; The print was possibly issued by Marguerite Bergny, located on rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré. Cf. Livre d'achats de Vallée : "1789. Suitte du 20 juin ... A Mme Bergny, rue du Coq ... plus une Trois têtes sous un bonnet ... 9 sous." (de Vinck, 2030); "Trois Tetes sous l'meme bonnet"--inscribed in the lower margin; "Moi de tous les / états l'pere nouricier / j'di qu'il faudroit / que tout fut ainsi / pour que tous / Sarangi / Pour not bon Roi / et ma patrie."--inscribed on a stone slab, which leans against the tree on the left; Surrounded by a rake, a scythe, and a plough, a farmer is seated on a stone in front of his house. He contemplates a triangle that is topped by a liberty cap and that displays three busts, symbols of the clergy, the nobility, and the Third Estate; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
