(etching (print); Le Dous, Jean (etcher); Published 1750; Getty Research Institute, Special Collections (Los Angeles, ...; 2646-436; 646436; (CMalG)1366-954; accession number: P910002** (FF. 978))
Note: Thieme-Becker mentions a sculptor Jean Le Dous who, in 1760, created a relief that adorns a column in the Church of San Marco, Rome (under: Ledoux, Jean-Baptiste); The print depicts a temporary structure designed to carry a miraculous sculpture of the holy crucifix in a procession from the Church of Ss. Marcello in Rome to the Basilica vaticana, held on the feast of Holy Thursday during the jubilee year of 1750. The ornate canopied structure encloses the crucifix, revealed by putti who hold open draperies. Flanked by angels carrying candelabra, the sculpture stands on a base adorned with the motif of the pelican feeding its youth and the instruments of the Passion; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
