| Note: Seven-line inscription in the lower margin: ... / Cette fête represente le Temple de la Santé ... / ARTIVM ACADEMIA; Inscribed in the lower left corner of the plate: Remise au Jour en 1772. par Mr. Dumont, ancien Pensionnaire de ce temps; The festival presumably involved the collaboration of the following students at the Académie: Gabriel-Pierre-Martin Dumont for the design of the architecture; Jacques-François-Joseph Saly, Louis-Claude Vassé, François-Gaspard-Balthasar Adam, and Pierre-Philippe Mignot for the sculptural displays; and Louis-Joseph Le Lorrain and Charles-Michel-Ange Challe for the painted embellishments; French printmaker active in Paris; The print depicts the ephemeral displays prepared by the pensionnaires of the Académie de France in Rome in celebration of the convalescence of King Louis XV of France in 1744; A sculptural group representing Asclepius and Hygieia, protective deities of medicine and health, is shown in a courtyard, flanked by altars with burning incense. The god and goddess lead Louis XV to a personification of France. Above the group appear the arms of France, embedded in a sun, and supported by Fame and Immortality; The print, issued several decades after the festivities were held in Rome, was initiated by the French draftsman and architect Gabriel-Pierre-Martin Dumont, who won the Prix de Rome in 1737 and was a pensionnaire at the Académie de France in Rome from 1742 to 1746; Watermark: cross; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
